the family outing
We did it! We bloody did it! We finally managed an outing to the city, with both kids, and it was really really good fun. Hurrah!
There was a general buzz of excitement in the house this morning as we prepared to drive into town to visit bowb and little maevis. But first there was breakfast to be had - Nutrigrain, shared from Daddy's bowl, for Edie; baby cereal for Jude and Special K for me. Then washing, dressing, a quick nap for Jude, a piling of all and sundry into the family car for the family outing, and away we went.
It was a cool and drizzly day, the drive was pleasant, listening to Mem Fox on the tape deck reading Possum Magic, and watching the boats on the water as we drove around the bay to our destination. We arrived on time, and spent a pleasant while catching up while maeve had a lovely long nap. We walked the streets of our old stomping ground, from when we first moved to Sydney nearly eleven years ago, and soaked in some city sights. The new and different shops, the old familiar ones, the interesting people, the buzz of busy streets and the gorgeous, quiet waterside enclave. We ate a lovely lunch, three adults juggling three kids. Jude slept awhile in the Baby Bjorn until he was woken by Edie tugging on his leg. Edie peeped around her pram to see maeve, and later they bonded over a packet of chips. Not recommended toddler eating, but it *had* been a big day and it did stave off the hungry monster for a while.
We timed our outing perfectly between showers, and within minutes of hitting the carseat for the way home Jude was fast asleep. Edie was there soon after.
All in all a great day, and a first for us. May there be many more.
